Sunday Morning Worship Is A Great Opportunity To Be Part Of Our Community And To Experience Tangible Benefits Of Our Stewardship Of Our Time, Talents And Treasure:
Our Minister – Liz Johnson is a blessing to us all! She is always ready to try new ideas and is warm and caring for everyone. Her sermons are like “good stories” that make the Bible lessons apply to our life today. The children love her and can’t wait to come up and be part of the Children’s sermon. It’s a hard job and we are fortunate that she chose us as her first church.
Passing The Peace – For the past few months we have been starting our worship service by ‘passing the peace.’ It’s a special way for all present to share a hug or a handshake and say “Peace be with you.”
Reading The Lessons – We have 30+ members who take turns in reading the lessons and leading all of us in prayer as we prepare to hear
the scriptures. We are overjoyed to see our young people eagerly seeking the opportunity to read.
Enjoying The Choir– Hymns are a basic ingredient to our worship service through which God speaks to each of us in special ways. Betty Baskwill is a wonderful music director! She is an accomplished organist and choir director who is so patient and has the skill to help all of us learn new hymns and music. Choir practice is the half hour before Sunday worship. For most of us this is the only place we will ever have the chance to learn to sing and get beyond “just trying to follow along.”
Ushering – Over 40 members serve as ushers on a rotating schedule, including our youth. It’s a true joy making sure everything is ready and everyone who enters the door is greeted with a warm smile. While ringing the bells and taking up the collection are important, the most important job during the service is checking to be sure everyone is OK and there is nothing that distracts anyone from having a meaningful time of worship.
Special Ways Of Caring – “Prayers of the People” are unique opportunities for all of us to share our personal joys and concerns for special people in our lives. It is a very special way to support each other at these times. We all experience sickness and other crises in our lives and we always remember how our minister and friends supported us in these times.
Coffee Hour Is Our Time Together – After each worship service we really get to know each other, both young and old, while we share coffee, tea, or juice and often a special cake or pastry or other goodies that others may bring. Believe it or not, CLEAN-UP is fun! People just “jump-in” and make it a pleasure rather than a chore. It’s a great chance to get to know someone in a new way by “drying the dishes together.”
CELEBRATING LIFE – Our mission statement printed at the top of each Sunday’s bulletin points each one of us toward a LIFE of fullness and joy in which we care not only for each other but all people. World Communion Sunday, Blanket Sunday, Crop Walk, supporting Erin Counihan in Mississippi, our students in Guatemala and our members in Iraq, cooking for Paul’s Place, Joy Gifts at Christmas are all wonderful opportunities to be a real part of our community!
We Are One In The Spirit And We Welcome Everyone To Join With Us Sunday Morning At 10:30.
